A scheme to provide financial assistance to a non-pensioner Ex-Servicemen of all ranks and widows to meet medical expenses related to treatment of approved serious diseases like cancer, renal failure, knee replacement and heart surgery.
Expenditure must be incurred at a approved govt hospital at the rates applicable under CGHS / ECHS.
List of the serious diseases are covered under this scheme
- Angiography & Angioplasty
- CABG. (l) Dialysis
- Open heart surgery
- Valve replacement
- Pacemaker Implant
- Cerebral stroke
- Prostrate surgery
- Joint replacement
- Renal failure
- Cancer
Treatment of other Diseases
In case the treatment of a serious disease which is not listed , such application will be referred to Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) for comment/recommendation to consider it for financial assistance for treatment of that disease, to ESM under this scheme.

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)
- Must be a non-pensioner ex-serviceman of any rank, or the widow of such an ex-serviceman
- Must NOT be enrolled in ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme) or using AFMS (Armed Forces Medical Services) facilities
- Must be recommended by the respective Zila Sainik Board (ZSB)
- Treatment must be at an approved government hospital at CGHS or ECHS rates
How to Apply
- Visit the Kendriya Sainik Board portal: ksb.gov.in
- Click 'Register', fill in your details, and upload a photo.
- Activate your account via the link sent to your registered email.
- Log in and select this scheme, then fill in the application form.
- Upload all documents attested by the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer (ZSWO).
- Submit online — ZSWO will contact you for physical verification.
- After ZSWO recommendation, the application goes to Rajya Sainik Board and then KSB for approval.
- Upon approval, payment is made directly to your bank via ECS.
- Track application status at ksb.gov.in by clicking 'Status of Application' and entering your DAK ID.
