Full official description
The "Educational Loan Scheme" is implemented by the Gujarat Minorities Finance and Development Corporation (GMFDC) under the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Gujarat. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance in the form of loans for all types of education, including various technical and non-technical courses, that help beneficiaries gain employment or enhance their job prospects. Under this scheme, low-interest loans are offered to eligible students from minority communities to pursue graduate and postgraduate courses in technical, vocational, professional, and medical fields, either in India or abroad.
Benefits
- Up to ₹1.5 lakh/year (max ₹7.5 lakh for a 5-year course) for studies in India
- Up to ₹2.5 lakh/year (max ₹12.5 lakh for 5 years) for medical courses in India
- Up to ₹3 lakh/year (max ₹15 lakh for 5 years) for studies abroad
- 3% annual interest for low-income families; 5% (women) or 8% (men) for families with income above ₹1.2 lakh
- Repayment in 60 monthly installments (5 years from course completion or job start)
💡 Why Startups Should Care
The tiered structure — with dedicated higher limits for medical courses (₹12.5 lakh over 5 years) — recognizes that professional degree costs vary significantly, giving minority students financing matched to their actual course expenses.
