Garima Greh aims to provide shelter to Destitute & abandoned Transgender persons with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities.
Broader objectives of the schemes are:
- To provide shelter with basic amenities such as food, clothing, recreation, medical facilities and counseling
- To safeguard the rights of Transgender persons
- To confirm the prevalence of congenial atmosphere in the Garima Greh by adopting uniform rules and regulations suitable to be followed by all Transgender persons
- To empower a TG person through skill-development and skill up-gradation programmes to lead a decent and dignified life, and protect them from atrocities and social stigma

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)
- Must hold a certificate from the National Portal for Transgender Persons (or be encouraged to register on it)
- Must be abandoned or homeless, and aged between 18 and 60 years
- Must be unemployed and not engaged in any productive commercial activity
- Must not be engaged in sex work or beggary
- Preference given to those living below the poverty line

- The Transgender certificate & identity card are nationally recognized and provided by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the certificate is a mandatory document to avail the welfare measures being provided under the SMILE scheme.
- The certificate can be obtained from the district magistrate’s office or from the block office. If the transgender person has undergone a sex change, then they will have to get a certificate from the hospital authorities.
