The Internship Scheme by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enables the students to gain adequate exposure to various Technology tracks and other units within UIDAI Headquarters, Technology Centre and Regional offices. It would be expected to work in the field of application development, legal domains (like cyber laws/IT act) & general management. For the “Interns” the exposure to the functioning of the UIDAI & the technologies applied shall be an add-on furthering their future career prospects in niche technology, legal domains, management and many other areas as the case may be.

Objective

  1. To allow young academic talent to be associated with UIDAI’s work for mutual benefit.
  2. The “Interns” shall have an opportunity to know about the UIDAI functioning. It will enable UIDAI to interact with young scholars and to get fresh ideas and study/research support from the field of academics. At the same time, it will provide an opportunity to young scholars to contribute in the UIDAI work and have an insight into the related technical domains, management fields or related legal aspects.

Period

The period of the Internship shall be at least six weeks but not exceeding 12 months. NOTE: Interns not completing the requisite period will not be issued any certificate.

Place of Internship

All the interns should work either at the Technology Centre, Bengaluru or Regional offices of UIDAI or UIDAI Headquarters or assigned from a remote location under the guidance of the Project Supervisor (not below the Director rank).

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend based on qualification and work mode:
    • B.Tech — On-site: ₹30,000 | Remote: ₹15,000
    • M.Tech — On-site: ₹40,000 | Remote: ₹20,000
    • MBA — On-site: ₹40,000 | Remote: ₹20,000
    • PhD (Technical) — On-site: ₹50,000 | Remote: ₹25,000
    • Non-technical UG (Economics/Law) — On-site: ₹20,000 | Remote: ₹10,000
    • Non-technical PG — On-site: ₹30,000 | Remote: ₹15,000
  • Experience certificate issued after completing the assigned work (satisfactory evaluation required)
  • Duration: 6 weeks to 12 months (PhD fellowships: 6–12 months)
  • Note: Intern must bring their own laptop; UIDAI does not provide a device

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

  • Indian citizen enrolled at a recognized university in India or abroad
  • Must meet ONE of these conditions:
    • 3rd or 4th year B.Tech/BE student with minimum 60% marks (or 6.0 GPA) in all prior semesters
    • 1st year or above of an M.Tech, MBA, or other postgraduate program with minimum 60% in graduation
    • Recent graduate waiting for admission or job — must have 60%+ cumulative marks and final results declared within the past 6 months
  • For PhD Fellows: must be registered at an Indian institution studying Computer Science, AI/ML, Cyber Law, Data Privacy, Blockchain, or Public Policy and Management
  • Minimum 60% marks in prior qualifying exams is required across all categories

How to Apply

Interested and eligible students need to Email their duly filled and signed application form in the prescribed format, along with the required (self-attested) documents to webadmin-uidai@nic.in.

NOTE: Candidates applying for a 1-year Internship should apply within 6 months from the completion of the final exam.

Offline

Till the facility online application is in place, the prospective candidates may apply to UIDAI ROs/ Technology Centre/ Divisions of HQ in the prescribed form as per Annexure-X (containing the Designation of DD Concerned and postal address).

NOTE: Candidates applying for a 1-year Internship should apply within 6 months from the completion of the final exam.

Yes, UIDAI will issue a certificate for the internship period upon completion of assigned work and with the recommendation of the reporting officer.

Will Interns Have Access To Office Internet?

Interns may be given access to the office internet at the discretion of the supervising officer and subject to compliance with the Information Security Policy of UIDAI.

Will Interns Be Provided With A Computer System Or Laptop?

No, interns need to bring their own laptop for carrying out the assigned work during the internship.

Will Interns Receive A Stipend?

Yes, interns will receive a stipend based on their field of study. Stipend amounts vary for technical, professional, and non-technical fields and can be higher for those working on premises compared to remote locations.

Is There A Report Submission Requirement For Interns?

Yes, interns are required to submit a report on the work undertaken during the internship. The project report should be identical to the one prepared for the sponsoring institution.

What Documents Are Required For The UIDAI Internship Application?

The application needs to be sponsored/forwarded by the current institution of the applicant. A recommendation letter from the PhD supervisor is required for PhD candidates.

Is The Internship A Guarantee Of A Job With UIDAI?

No, the internship is neither a job nor an assurance of a job with UIDAI. However, interns may receive weightage during campus hiring if certain conditions are met.
