"Post Matric Scholarship Scheme For The Students Belonging To Scheduled Tribe For Studies In India" is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, for the students of Scheduled Tribe (ST) for studies in India. This scheme is for pursuing higher education starting from class XI to Post Graduation courses in India.

Objective of the scheme:

  • To enable eligible Scheduled Tribe students to undertake quality education from Post Matric to Post Graduate level by providing them financial assistance.
  • To create an error free platform ensuring that the targeted beneficiaries receive scholarship on time.

Scholarship under the Scheme will be available to ST students for studies in India and will be directly transferred to the account of students.

Scope of the scheme:

These scholarships are available for studies in India only and are awarded by the Government of the State/Union Territory Administration to which the applicant actually belongs i.e. were permanently settled.

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend for hostellers: ₹1,200 (professional/degree courses), ₹820 (non-professional BA/BSc/BCom/MA/MSc), ₹570 (vocational/ITI/polytechnic diploma), ₹380 (Class XI–XII)
  • Monthly stipend for day scholars: ₹530 (non-professional degree), ₹300 (vocational/ITI), ₹230 (Class XI–XII)
  • Reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees charged by the institution
  • Additional ₹800/month (hostellers) or ₹600/month (day scholars) for disabled (Divyangjan) ST students
  • Scholarship paid directly to students' bank accounts via DBT

Who Can Apply (Eligibility)

  • Must be an Indian national belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category as recognized by the state/UT of permanent residence
  • Must have passed Class X (matriculation) or higher from a recognized board/university
  • Family income from all sources must not exceed ₹2,00,000 per year
  • May be studying through regular or correspondence/distance education
  • Cannot hold any other scholarship simultaneously (except free lodging or book grants)
  • All children in the same family are eligible; no sibling restriction

Exclusions

  • Candidates who complete a course in one stream will not be eligible to take diploma/degree course of different stream. For example, student will not be eligible for scholarship for pursuing B. Com after completing B.A or BSC or MBBS after doing B.Tech.

How to Apply

Offline
  • Application complete in all respects shall be submitted to the Head of the Institution, being attended or last attended by the candidates and shall be addressed to an officer specified for this purpose by the Government of State/Union Territory to which the student belongs, in accordance with the instructions issued by them from time to time.

Documents Required

  • An application for a scholarship should comprise:
  • One copy of the application for scholarship in the prescribed form (separate application forms have been prescribed for ‘fresh’ and renewal scholarships by concerned States/UTs).
  • One copy of the passport-size photograph with signatures of the student thereon (for fresh scholarship).
  • One attested copy of certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc. in respect of all examinations passed.
  • A certificate (in original) of Caste duly signed by an authorized Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar.
  • An income declaration by the self-employed parents/guardians, stating definite income from all sources through an affidavit on nonjudicial stamp paper. Employed parents/guardians are required to obtain an income certificate from their employer and for any additional income from other sources, they would furnish a declaration by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper.
  • A receipt in acknowledgment of the scholarship in the previous year on the form attached to the application only duly counter-signed by the Head of the Institution concerned if the applicant was in receipt of a scholarship under this scheme in the preceding year.
